World of Wacraft
May 7, 2009
World of Warcraft has been a phenomenon among the video game industry for several years now but the most recent expansion has left some players, myself included, behind.
It is common for new games to have new hardware requirements; this enables the game to have crisp clear graphics, better game play and other features that will enhance the gaming experience. But with the creation of VISTA, the creators of WOW either forgot about, or did not care about, one group of gamers: We who play on our Laptops and are stuck with VISTA.
The new expansion, Wraith of the Lich King (WotLK), requires 2 gigabytes of RAM to operate if you run VISTA. For gamers that run off of their desktop computers, this is fine because most desktops today either have, or can upgrade to, that amount. The same can not be said for those of us who are Laptops are only able to hold a max of 1 gig of RAM.
We are forced to grind terminally at level 70 and watch other toons pass up by. What is even more frustrating is that Microsoft is rumored to be discontinuing VISTA. . . . too little too late.
GTA IV
May 2, 2009
Hello again!! I have a huge problem with Grand Theft Auto. I remember when GTA IV was hitting stores and my friend could not wait. He spent the next month or so at home playing the same damn video game. So, when I finally got my hands on it I was kind of excited because all my friends love to play it. Imagine my surprise when I would play the game for a minute and then the cops would show up and arrest me, Game over! It went on for a while because I was determined to finish one of the missions. For those of you who don’t know, in this video game you’re a thief or some sort of bad guy and the character gets phone calls for jobs that are supposed to get done. The first time I was able to rob a car from some poor soul only to end up crashing at a bridge. For the life of me I couldn’t get the guy to rob another car!! I kept trying and the character would just stand there next to a car and then the driver would get out and beat him up shortly after the cops would show up and finish the game. I don’t like the premise of the game, it has no substance, the graphics are ok I guess. In the end I just feel like I wasted an hour of my life that I’m not going to get back. If there is anyone out there that can explain why people like this game, please explain it to me.
I honestly can’t even believe that a game which takes you into a world where you’re objective is to do as much damage as possible is a success. I refuse to believe that our society is truly this violence obsessed or that we live in a society that is stimulated by such mindless games. I mean ok I did like bioshock which is a pretty violent game, but it had a story and a concept behind it that I don’t think GTA has. Literally it’s just violence, one of my friends told me that, as a player, you can rob someone’s car and just go rampant on the city killing of grandma’s and destroying public property and this is how you rack up points!! Maybe I’m just mad I didn’t get to truly play the game and this is why I don’t get it. With that said, I will continue on with my weekend. Have a good one!
Cesia.
