TOMB RAIDER: ANNIVERSARY
As I scavenged through the box of used games at the mall game store I found one that caught my eye: Tomb Raider Anniversary (TRA). I was immediately taken back to those nights that extended into days that extended into weeks of playing the original Tomb Raider and my love of it. TRA is a revised version of the original game (in my opinion the best of the TR franchise) and does not disappoint.
While some video game purists might have balked at the idea of redoing the original Tomb Raider game, I have found it to be much more fun of an experience that playing the original. Why? Because now I can see the game.
With the advancement of technology in the video game industry, the people at Eidos (makers of the TR franchise) have redone the texture maps to that there is greater detail, cleaned up the environments so that they seem more realistic and added a new game engine that lets the game play be more fluid and annoying at the same time. Plants look like plants, clothes look like clothes and guns look like guns instead of black cylinders being held by a hand.
Playing TRA is just as frustrating as it was when I first played it many years ago. Figuring out the environment puzzles makes me want to scream, the jumping is a pain and the lack of cheat codes suck. All that being said, I love this title and am thoroughly addicted to it.
